Things are starting to look like the good old days on Tuesday chess nights at the Westport Flea Market!

Even on non-tournament nights, there has been a good showing. This last Tuesday, some members requested a non-rated G/10 tournament, which was won 4-0 by 10-time Missouri State Chess Champion Ron Luther.

ALWAYS great to have NM Ron, as well as IM Michael Brooks at the club. More about that later, as there will soon be an announcement about our tournament nights, and who will be attending.

Some good, and quite often common sense, suggestions for the club have been submitted for consideration. It is generally agreed that excess political (or other controversial) discussion is not conducive to a fun night of chess, and we can all take a break from politics and religion to enjoy an escape from ordinary reality (whatever that is), and have a friendlier place for all to play chess. This is not to censor anyone, rather, it is merely a request that if anyone has a spontaneous soap box moment, or other cognitive deficit to display, to just please consider that we are all different people of different ages, experiences and backgrounds, who happen to share a fondness for a certain amazing (and perhaps addictive) game.

Seriously, we are a rather informal and basically fun club that meets at a bar and grill, and that is not likely to change. However, we have had our best times when we remember the real reasons we have this club in the first place.

Last Tuesday of the month G/10 chess tournament @ 7 PM
Every last Tuesday of the month we host a rated Game-10 chess tournament in the Swiss format. However, you do NOT have to be a member of the USCF to participate. You will play four ten-minute games. The entry fee is $5. A win will net you $2.50, and a draw will get you $1.25. There are always other players available for non-tournament, casual play, so feel free to come to the club even if you do not plan to play in the tournament. Registration begins at 6:30.
